New Kids On the Block
City Child Care Facility To Welcome Additional Children

SAN DIEGO, CA - Kiddie Hall, the City of San Diego's Downtown child care facility, will soon be extending its services to the children of all Downtown residents and workers on a space available basis.

The 13,000-square-foot center officially opened its doors in December in the Comerica Bank building, providing infants to five-year-olds with quality daytime care in a state-of-the-art facility. Additionally, Kiddie Hall features two outdoor play areas: one on the third floor deck for infants and toddlers, and a second park-like area at ground level for children aged three to five that will open April 21st.

"The forthcoming completion of the center's ground floor playground will allow us to accommodate up to 150 kids," said Deb Ferrin, the City's child care coordinator. "Though priority registration is given to City employees and Comerica building tenants, there will be space available for non-City employees who want to take advantage of our convenient downtown location."

Knowledge Beginnings, a national leader in childhood development, manages and staffs the center. There are eight age-specific classrooms that offer developmentally appropriate education programs featuring art, music, science, math and creative movement activities for infants through kindergarten.

The total cost of Kiddie Hall is $1.2 million. The City of San Diego and Comerica Bank partnered to share the cost of funding this exceptional new childcare facility. Kiddie Hall also received generous donations from City of San Diego employee unions, Consolidated Contracting and Knowledge Beginnings to enhance the selection of toys and learning materials available to the children enrolled in the center.

Located in the heart of downtown, Kiddie Hall is on the third floor of the Comerica Bank building, at 600 B Street, San Diego, CA 92101. Center hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the center is closed on City holidays.

There is currently a waiting list to enroll infants. Those applying to enroll children of all age groups should contact Ruby Jarrett at (619) 696-5042. For more information about Kiddie Hall, contact Deb Ferrin with the Community and Economic Development Department at (619) 533-6511.
