Nearly $10 Million in City Grant Funding Available
Applications Being Accepted for FY '05 Social Services and Community Development Block Grant Funds

SAN DIEGO - Approximately $10 million in funding is now available for nonprofits and other eligible organizations that provide services and carry out projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents in the City of San Diego.

Each year, the City of San Diego receives grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for services and public infrastructure projects that benefit low- and moderate-income residents. It is anticipated that the City will receive $18 to $19 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2004. The City makes available a portion of the funds to eligible organizations through both the CDBG and Social Services application processes. Separate applications must be submitted for each program to be eligible to receive the funds.

The submittal deadline for Social Services applications is 5:00 p.m. on February 2, 2004. If applicants need technical assistance, contact Shirley Reid, social services contract administrator, at (619) 533-5974 or sreid@sandiego.gov.

The City's Community and Economic Development Department will hold two workshops to provide an overview of the CDBG application process on Monday, January 12, 2004 from 10 AM and 2 PM at 1200 3rd Ave, Suite 924, San Diego, Ca. 92101. Registration is not required. If prospective applicants miss the workshop and require technical assistance, contact Edward Prendell, assistant CDBG administrator at (619) 533-6510 (eprendell@sandiego.gov) or Anita Pyle, CDBG administrator at (619) 236-6944 (apyle@sandiego.gov). The submittal deadline for CDBG applications is 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2004.

Applications and supporting documents for both the Social Services and CDBG programs are now available on the City's web site at www.sandiego.gov/socialservices and www.sandiego.gov/cdbg, respectively. Applicants may also call the Community and Economic Development Department at (619) 236-5990 for more information and workshop details.
