Hundreds of Jobs Available at Job Fair in San Ysidro
Up to 300 Job Openings Featured at October 7th Job Fair
SAN DIEGO - A job fair will be held on Thursday, October 7 in San Ysidro to fill up to 300 job openings created as a result of the success of businesses at the Shops of Las Americas and other local businesses in San Ysidro. More than 50 retail shops, restaurants, and other area businesses are scheduled to participate in the event.
The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Shops at Las Americas, located at 4211 Camino de la Plaza in San Ysidro. Registration for the job fair will be held outside the food court.
The job fair will specifically target citizens who live in the 92154 and 92173 ZIP codes. These are “targeted employment areas” of the state-designated South Bay Enterprise Zone that allows tax credits for most businesses and helps improve the area’s economy. The City of San Diego administers the zone.
Job seekers can arrive early and take advantage of interview coaching and resume reviewing. Additionally, resume writing classes are regularly available at the South County Career Center, 1111 Bay Blvd., in Chula Vista, to assist South County residents prepare for the job fair. Although the fair is primarily for those living within the targeted employment areas, anyone interested is invited to participate.
The Shops at Las Americas is recognized as the largest and most significant retail development along the 2,000-mile border between the U.S. and Mexico, not only because of its size and scope but also due to its innovative public/private partnership structure. The first phase of the project, The Shops at Las Americas, features more than 75 brand-name stores and a diverse, bi-national customer base. In 2004, Las Americas will break ground on an expansion that will bring in high-fashion merchants such as Neiman Marcus Last Call, Coach Factory, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Lucky Brand Jeans and more. The center's expansion is anticipated to open in spring 2005.
The job fair is being coordinated by The Shops at Las Americas, San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, South County Career Center, MAXIMUS, MAAC Project, Casa Familiar and the City of San Diego’s Community and Economic Development Department.
