City Seeks Input on Midway Pacific Highway Corridor Community Plan
Residents, Businesses and Organizations Asked to Attend Workshop to be Held January 22nd to Amend Current Plan

SAN DIEGO – The City of San Diego is seeking participation from the community to amend the current Midway Pacific Highway Corridor Community Plan.  The City’s Redevelopment Division and Planning Department have jointly planned a series of three workshops where community members can provide input, with the first workshop scheduled for January 22 from 9 a.m.to noonat the Holiday Inn, 3737 Sports Arena Boulevard.

Residents, business owners, organizations and interested parties are invited to attend the first workshop to discuss proposed changes to the current plan.  The proposed changes would include eliminating the “Bay to Bay” concept and replacing it with alternate open space and land use strategies.  After much study, it was found that the “Bay to Bay” concept was not feasible.  Because the “Bay to Bay” concept was a part of the approved community plan, alternatives to the project are being solicited by the City.

The workshop will include an open forum to discuss open space and land use strategies, areas where transit-oriented development should be encouraged, as well as other community concerns.  There will be a walking tour so that participants can see the area firsthand and provide input based on their impressions of the current conditions.

Subsequent workshops will be scheduled for late February and late March.  If participants require any special accommodations, please contact Lydia Goularte-Ruiz at (619) 533-4233 with at least 72 hours notice prior to the workshop.

For more information about the community plan amendment process, contact Maxx Stalheim of the City’s Planning Department at (619) 236-6153 or visit the City’s web site at www.sandiego.gov/planning

The City of San Diego Redevelopment Agency eliminates blight from designated areas, as well as achieves the goals of development, reconstruction and rehabilitation of residential, commercial, industrial, and retail districts.  Redevelopment is one of the most effective ways to breathe new life into deteriorated areas plagued by social, physical, environmental or economic conditions that act as a barrier to new investment by private enterprise.  The City of San Diego Redevelopment Agency consists of three divisions: the City Redevelopment Division (which provides overall agency management and is housed in the City of San Diego Communityand Economic Development Department), the Centre City Development Corporation and the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation.
