City Offers U.S. Passport Application Processing SAN DIEGO – With just a few months away from the summer travel season, residents may need to obtain or update their U.S. passports and the City of San Diego is making it easier by offering the processing service at each of its 11 Community Service Centers throughout the city. This useful service can save residents time and an unnecessary wait in long post office lines. Those interested in the obtaining a passport at a Community Service Center will need to show proof of Citizenship, such as an original birth certificate or original naturalization certificate, as well as proof of identity such as a current driver’s license or official military identification card. Passport applications for children under the age of 14 require both parents to be present or a notarized “statement of consent” from the non-appearing parent. The cost for an adult passport is $85. For children under 16 the cost is $70. Passports are processed and mailed to applicant within four to six weeks, but the application can be expedited and the passport processed in two weeks for an additional $60 fee.
