City Offers U.S. Passport Application Processing
Community Service Centers Make it Easier to Get Passports

SAN DIEGO – With just a few months away from the summer travel season, residents may need to obtain or update their U.S. passports and the City of San Diego is making it easier by offering the processing service at each of its 11 Community Service Centers throughout the city.  This useful service can save residents time and an unnecessary wait in long post office lines.

Community  Service  Center passport agents have the ability to process applications for individuals who have never been issued a United States Passport; whose latest passport was issued more than 15 years ago; whose valid passport has been lost or stolen; or whose most recent passport was issued when the applicant was under 16 years of age. Passport renewal applications are also available.

Those interested in the obtaining a passport at a Community Service Center will need to show proof of Citizenship, such as an original birth certificate or original naturalization certificate, as well as proof of identity such as a current driver’s license or official military identification card.   Passport applications for children under the age of 14 require both parents to be present or a notarized “statement of consent” from the non-appearing parent.

The cost for an adult passport is $85.  For children under 16 the cost is $70.   Passports are processed and mailed to applicant within four to six weeks, but the application can be expedited and the passport processed in two weeks for an additional $60 fee.   For more information, call individual Community Service Centers or visit the City’s Web site at www.sandiego.gov/servicecenters/.
