Midway Community Provides Input to Amend Community Plan
Two Additional Meetings Scheduled to Solicit Public Feedback on Project Area

SAN DIEGO – On January 22nd, The City of San Diego’s Redevelopment Division and Planning Department conducted the first of three public workshops to solicit community suggestions and recommendations to amend the current Midway Pacific Highway Corridor Community Plan.  The meeting provided excellent community feedback and laid the foundation for the next two meetings which will further discuss proposed changes to the current Community Plan.

The first Workshop included an open forum to discuss open space and land use strategies, areas where transit-oriented development should be encouraged and other community concerns.  Participants went on a walking tour of the area and offered their impressions of the current conditions.  Previously, residents, business owners and community organizations made recommendations to amend the Community Plan.  The recommendations included eliminating the “Bay to Bay” concept and replacing it with alternate open space and land use strategies.  Additionally, a preliminary engineering study, completed in 2003, concluded that the implementation of the “Bay to Bay” concept was not financially feasible.

The second meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 23rd from 6 pmto 8 pm at the Holiday Inn, 3737 Sports Arena Boulevard.   The workshop will build on the progress made at the first workshop to identify priorities and begin to discuss the community’s vision for the Midway Pacific Highway Corridor.  The final public workshop on March 23rd will analyze and prioritize the collected data which will be used to amend the Community Plan.
