Final Meeting Midway Community Workshop Provides Input to Amend Community Plan

SAN DIEGO – Over the past two months the City of San Diego’s Redevelopment Division and Planning Department have conducted two public workshops to solicit community suggestions and recommendations to amend the current Midway Pacific Highway Corridor Community Plan.  These meetings provided important community input and laid the foundation for the final meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, March 23rd from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Hampton Inn, 3888 Greenwood Street.  This final meeting will analyze and prioritize the collected data from the prior two meetings which will be used to amend the Community Plan.

These workshops grew out of recommendations by residents, business owners and community organizations to amend the Community Plan which included eliminating the “Bay to Bay” concept and replacing it with alternate open space and land use strategies.  Additionally, a preliminary engineering study, completed in 2003, concluded that the implementation of the “Bay to Bay” concept was not financially feasible.

The first two workshops included an open forum to discuss open space and land use strategies, areas where transit-oriented development should be encouraged and other community concerns.  Participants went on a walking tour of the area, offered their impressions of the current conditions and identified priorities and engaged in discussion of the community’s vision for the Midway Pacific Highway Corridor.
