  Types of Permits/Approvals

No-Plan Permits

Many projects can be permitted without plans. These "No-Plan" projects include work such as:

  • Installing a new electrical circuit
  • Replacement of a heating system
  • Adding or replacing a water heater

Most of these types of projects can be permitted online by using our SimplE-Permits service. The cost for most simple mechanical, plumbing, and electrical permits is under $200. (Note that depending on your project, multiple permits may be required, each of which will incur separate fees.) For more information see Information Bulletin 103 - Fee Schedule and Worksheet for Mechanical,Plumbing/Gas,Electrical (PDF: 139K)

Other "No-Plan" projects may be a little more complicated and won’t qualify for a SimplE-Permit. However, permits for those projects are still easy to obtain. Simply make an appointment with Development Services by phoning (619) 446-5300.

Not sure if your project qualifies for a "No-Plan" permit? See Information Bulletin 203 - How to Obtain No Plan Permits (PDF: 80K).
