Airport Land Use Compatibility Overlay Zone

The City adopted a new airport related overlay zone that applies to the MCAS Miramar, Brown Field Municipal Airport, Gillespie Field, and Montgomery Field airport influence areas (effective January 3, 2012). The new overlay zone was established in response to actions taken by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to adopt Airport Land Use Compatibility Plans (ALUCPs) pursuant to state law.

The Airport Land Use Compatibility Overlay Zone was adopted by the City Council via two ordinances (provided below), which identify the regulations and process for airport land use compatibility review within the MCAS Miramar, Brown Field Municipal Airport, Gillespie Field, and Montgomery Field airport influence areas (effective January 3, 2012):

San Diego International Airport is not yet included in the overlay zone described above. The existing SDIA ALUCP, Airport Environs overlay zone, and Airport Approach overlay zone apply to proposed development surrounding SDIA. Please contact the Airport Authority for information on the status of their process for adoption/update of ALUCPs for San Diego International Airport and the US Navy Airports (NAS North Island, NOLF Imperial Beach).
