Collage of disability-related photosAccording to the 2000 U.S. Census, out of 1,223,400 citizens in the City of San Diego, approximately 197,134 citizens have some type of disability. That's 16% of all San Diego's population; this number has definitely increased in the past seven years and will keep increasing everyday. The City's Disability Services Program was established in 1991 per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Our mission is to ensure that every facility, activity, benefit, program and service operated or funded by the City is fully accessible to, and useable by, people with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as other federal, state and local access codes and disability rights laws.

This website has been designed to provide you with the most up-to-date information pertaining not only to City services, but to the broader questions you may have regarding disability.
