Welcome to the Disability Services Department
According to the 2010 US Census:
- Approximately 56.7 million people (18.7%) of the civilian non-institutionalized population had a disability
- Four in 10 Individuals with disabilities aged 21 to 65 were employed (41%) compared to 79% of adults without disabilities
- About 38.3 million people (12.6 %) had a severe disability
The City’s Disability Services Department was established in 1991 per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. Our mission is to ensure that every facility, activity, benefit, program and service operated or funded by the City is fully accessible to, and useable by, people with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as other federal, state and local access codes and disability rights laws.
