Guaranteed Water For Industry ProgramThe Guaranteed Water for Industry Program was created by the San Diego City Council in 1998 to address industry concerns regarding the City's ability to provide a dependable supply of water for manufacturing and R&D firms, many of whom are highly dependent on water for industrial processing and cooling needs. This program addresses that concern by enabling some water customers to become "exempt" from potential mandatory water conservation measures that could be adopted by the City in the event of a future drought. Participating firms must use reclaimed water to the extent possible in their manufacturing areas, cooling towers, or other uses within their buildings, as well as implement "Best Management Practices for Potable Water Conservation." After certification, such firms are then placed on a list of preferred customers who will not be forced to reduce their consumption of potable or reclaimed water during a drought ("water warning") situation.
