The City's Economic Development Department has a proactive Business Expansion, Attraction and Retention (BEAR) Team that works directly with key businesses in targeted industries to provide assistance and incentives that result in the retention and creation of jobs and investment in San Diego.
The City of San Diego ensures its business climate is attractive for both existing businesses and those interested in relocating to San Diego.
The Economic Development Department's Business Development Division (BDD) is available to assist with site selection, due diligence, tax incentives, permit assistance, fee reductions, financing, and other programs that help large and small businesses.
Retention of existing businesses is the highest priority for the City. All available services and resources are utilized to ensure that San Diego remains the most favorable location for businesses. Existing businesses receive tailored technical permit assistance and financial incentives to ensure that existing and future expansion needs are met. The Business Development Division also actively assists in the attraction and relocation of businesses to the City from other jurisdictions.
Additionally, the City cultivates an open dialogue and partnership with private non-profit organizations, trade associations and other institutions, including the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce to maintain a business-friendly environment.
