High-Tech Resources

The San Diego region has one of the highest concentrations of high-tech companies in the United States, and the third highest concentration of biotech companies in the nation to continue those successes, several organizations have been formed to assist these companies with various issues. Some of the programs or agencies listed below were jump-started by the City, and the City works closely with all the organizations.

  • BIOCOM San Diego
    BIOCOM is a regional association for many biotechnology, medical device and bio-agriculture companies in San Diego County. BIOCOM is actively engaged in ensuring that the life science industry remains a strong and growing part of the region's economy. The organization proactively addresses significant business and legislative issues, educates the general public, and develops programs to help these companies operate efficiently and economically.
  • Center for Applied Competitive Technologies
    The Center for Applied Competitive Technologies - San Diego, located at San Diego City College, is one of 12 regional advanced technology centers designated by the state of California to assist regional manufacturers in modernizing manufacturing and production technologies, thus enhancing their competitiveness in the global economy.
  • Front Door
    Front Door is a UCSD Connect program that assists emerging growth companies in finding information and resources during their development stages. It also provides a number of forums to exchange ideas, information, presentations, and concepts.
  • San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum
    The San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum meets monthly to address business challenges faced by San Diego entrepreneurs. Through a case study format, CEOs of early-stage and growing companies present their most pressing issues to a panel of their peers. The panel offers strategies, tactics, and advise on funding, marketing, and growth. The San Diego chapter is linked with 21 other chapters worldwide.
  • San Diego Technology Incubator
    Created in partnership with the City and operated by the San Diego Community College District on the City College campus, the San Diego Technology Incubator provides business incubator space and services for emerging high-technology businesses that have been in operation for at least a year.   • San Diego Software and Internet Council
    The San Diego Software and Internet Council represents software and internet businesses in the San Diego area. The council fosters communications and networking opportunities among its members, and creates and maintains a link between the software and internet industries, local educational institutions, and local government.
  • Southwest Regional Technology Transfer Center
    Under a technology transfer grant from NASA, the center assists businesses in using new technologies developed through defense and space programs. For more information, call (619) 685-1488.
  • UCSD Connect
    UCSD Connect was created in 1985 to contribute to the economic development of San Diego by nurturing high-tech entrepreneurship, facilitating interaction between the University of California, San Diego, and the business community, and further developing San Diego's infrastructure. The organization is a division of UCSD's Extended Studies and Public Programs.
