Procedures and Locations

If you are not applying online, you may obtain an employment application and Data Entry Form from the Employment Information Center. Downloadable PDF application forms may also be available online for some job opportunities under Current City Jobs. EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION CENTER
The Employment Information Center is located on the west side first floor of Civic Center Plaza Building, 1200 3rd Avenue, San Diego. Operating hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. [Telephone: (619) 236-6467, Fax: (619) 236-6672].

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

  • From Interstate 5 South:
    Exit Front Street/2nd Avenue
    Right on 2nd Avenue

  • From Interstate 5 North:
    Exit Civic Center/Pershing
    Left on B Street

  • From Highway 163:
    At end of highway turn Right on B Street

  • From Highway 94:
    Exit 5 North, exit 6th Avenue (turn left)
    Right on B Street

Metered and paid parking are available.

BY MAIL
To receive an application by mail or to be notified of future application filing periods for a specific job, send a 9" x 12" self-addressed stamped envelope with proper amount of postage (3 oz. large envelope, $1.22). Write the title of the job in which you are interested on the envelope and mail to:

If you return your application materials via the U.S. Postal Service, you should use "Certified Mail - Return Receipt Requested" to provide verification of timely delivery (See "Deadlines"). Do not send applications via interoffice mail. Postmarks as proof of meeting the final filing date are not accepted.

DEADLINES
Application materials must be received at the Employment Information Center NO LATER THAN 5:00 P.M. Pacific Standard Time ON THE FINAL FILING DATE. Postmarks as proof of meeting the final filing date are not accepted. If you return your application materials via the U.S. Postal Service, you should use "Certified Mail - Return Receipt Requested" to provide verification of timely delivery. Do not send applications via interoffice mail.

RESUMES
Do not submit a resume to the Personnel Department. Resumes will NOT be accepted in lieu of an employment application. If you are contacted for an interview, you may wish to leave a resume with the City department that is doing the hiring.

APPROVED APPLICATION
If you are approved, you will be notified by mail once your name has been placed on the eligible list. The eligible list will be forwarded to the City department doing the hiring. Department managers will contact and interview as many candidates from the list as needed to fill the vacancies.

DISAPPROVED APPLICATION
If your application is not approved, you will receive a Notice of Application Review.

STATUS OF APPLICATION
To obtain the status on an application you submitted, or to request a review of your application, please call the Testing Section of the Personnel Department at (619) 236-6358 between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
