This project is the next phase of the Nobel Dr. /I-805 interchange project and is used to reduce congestion in the University City area.
The existing La Jolla Village Drive/I-805 interchange project consists of a cloverleaf layout. The proposed roadway improvements will convert this interchange into a half diamond interchange and remove the cloverleaf configuration. The overall transformation characteristics will be the removal of two of the existing loop ramps, remove two collector distributor roads and widening of La Jolla Village Drive to four lanes in each direction. Each of the 6 remaining ramps will either be widened or realigned to provide more traffic storage and "T Connect" with La Jolla Village Drive.
Start of construction occurred in early 2011 with overall completion planned for early to mid 2012.
Increased overpass storage capacity on the City of San Diego road, La Jolla Village Drive from 3 lanes each direction to 4 lanes each direction. In addition, this project increases the other storage capacity on all the onramps and off ramps at the La Jolla Village Drive and I-805 interchange. Both benefits will reduce congestion and decrease commute times.
The project estimate is $23.9 million. The current available funding is private developer funds (FBA) in the amount of $23.9 million.
