La Jolla Village Drive and I-805 Interchange

Background

Photo of La Jolla Village Drive and I-805 Interchange Project Area

This project is the next phase of the Nobel Drive/I-805 interchange project and will reduce congestion in the University City area.

Description

The existing La Jolla Village Drive/I-805 interchange consists of a cloverleaf layout. The proposed roadway improvements will convert this interchange into a half diamond interchange and remove the cloverleaf configuration. The overall transformation characteristics will be the removal of two of the existing loop ramps, removal of two collector distributor roads and widening of La Jolla Village Drive to four lanes in each direction. Each of the 6 remaining ramps will either be widened or realigned to provide more traffic storage and “T Connect” with La Jolla Village Drive.

Benefits

Increased overpass storage capacity on La Jolla Village Drive from 3 lanes each direction to 4 lanes each direction. In addition, this project increases the storage capacity on all the on-ramps and off-ramps at the La Jolla Village Drive and I-805 interchange. Both benefits will reduce congestion and decrease commute times.

Cost

The project estimate is $28.9 million. The current available funding is private developer funds (FBA) in the amount of $23.9 million.

Schedule

This project design is near completion with start of construction anticipated in late 2009 and completion of the project in 2011.
