Description
Group 3010 is part of the City of San Diego’s continuing Annual Capital Improvements Water Main Replacement Program. Originally installed as early as 1927, the existing cast iron water mains are nearing the end of their service life. The project is located in Ocean Beach and Peninsula communities.
Construction Information
The project includes the replacement of approximately 2.1 miles of existing 6-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch cast iron water mains using conventional open-trench methods. Related work will include replacement of water services and fire hydrants, roadway restoration and installation of pedestrian curb ramps.
Construction of the project will affect portions of the following streets: Froude Street, Seaside Street, Green Street, Larkspur Street, Castelar Street, West Point Loma Boulevard, Abbott Street, Long Branch Street and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.

Schedule
Construction will be performed in five phases and is anticipated to begin in the January of 2010. Total project duration is estimated to take approximately 14 months with each phase lasting 2-3 months. Phase 1 and 2 includes work on Froude Street, Seaside Street and adjoining streets. Phase 3 consists of work on Abbott Street, and is anticipated to begin in September 2010. Phase 4 includes work on Long Branch Avenue. Work will conclude in early 2011 with Phase 5 on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. Construction operations will be suspended during the summer moratorium from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Normal work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Cost
The total cost of the project is estimated at $4.7 million, including engineering and construction, and will be funded by water rates and revenue bonds.
