Pacific Beach Water Main Replacement
Water Group Job 906
Description
The City of San Diego is working to improve the water infrastructure for residents and visitors alike. One way to accomplish this goal is through group jobs which derive this moniker because we upgrade and replace City assets simultaneously to minimize disruption to a neighborhood. We need to replace the existing Pacific Beach cast iron main as it has reached the end of its service life and perform the necessary street resurfacing.
Construction Information
The replacement footage consists of 1.84 miles of 8" and 12" water main. All of the work is within the same pressure zone which makes it easier and more efficient to install the new main. Instead of digging a new trench for the replacement main, all of the work will be performed within the existing trench where the old main is housed. At the end of the day, the entire street will be reopened to normal traffic conditions.
There may be temporary water outages while City crews make cuts or connections to the existing main. These outages will occur at night and each resident will promptly be notified prior to this work. To minimize the inconvenience during construction, residents along the alignment of the new main will be placed on a temporary highline service. A highline is a 2" above ground main that will service your residence while the new main is being installed.
