Rancho Peñasquitos Pump StationDescriptionWith the implementation of the Capital Improvements Program in 1997, necessary upgrades and replacements to the City’s water infrastructure were identified. As part of this effort, the Rancho Peñasquitos Pump Station (formerly the Rancho Bernardo pump station) is scheduled for improvements. Originally built in 1963, the existing 25 million gallons per day pump station will be replaced by a new 32 MGD pump station. This project is mandated by the California Department of Public Health and is required to be complete by March 2010. Construction InformationThe new housing unit will be 102 feet long, 34 feet wide and 24 feet tall. The pump station building will include stucco over split face masonry block wall and tile roofing. After the new pump station is constructed, the existing pump station will be demolished. ScheduleConstruction of the new pump station began in January 2009 and will take approximately 12 months to complete. At that time, an additional two months will be spent demolishing and removing the old pump station. The entire project will be complete by early spring 2010. CostThe total cost of this project is estimated at $13 million and will be funded by water rates and revenue bonds. Benefits
