Sewer Group Replacement 756
Background
The existing 8-inch VC (vitrified clay) is from the original 1942 installation. Most of the existing pipe has reached its useful design life and is to be replaced with new upsized PVC pipe to meet current design standards.
The existing sewer mains are old and nearing the end of their service life. The project will upgrade the capacity of Sewer Main to meet anticipated future peak flows, and bring the sewer system up to current design standards and comply with EPA environmental requirements and mandates.
Project Overview
The project consists of replacing approximately 2.95 miles of existing 8” vitrified clay (VC) sewer with new 8” polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sewer, rehabilitating 200 feet of existing 8” VC sewer, and all other work and equipment, including installing new curb ramps along the project site area per ADA standards and other road improvements.
The construction will affect portions of the following streets and locations: Denver, Erie, Frankfort, Galveston, Hartford, Gardena, Ashton, Napier, Orten, Milton Street, and Cecelia Trails.
Construction Schedule
The project is currently at 30% Design stage. The construction is estimated to begin in August 2011 and is estimated to complete in the summer of 2012.
Cost
The total project cost is $6 million. This amount includes the design, environmental studies, construction, inspection, and permits fees. The construction cost is estimated at $3.5 million.
