Sewer Group Job 752
Background
The existing 6-inch and 8-inch VC (vitrified clay) sewer pipes were originally installed in 1946. Most of the existing pipe has reached its useful design life and needs to be replaced and/or rehabilitated with new PVC pipe to meet current design standards.
The existing sewer mains are old and nearing the end of their service life. The project will improve the flow and the design life of the sewer mains to meet anticipated future peak flows. It will also bring the sewer system up to current design standards and comply with EPA environmental requirements and mandates.
Project Overview
Sewer Group Job 752 consists of replacing approximately 5,247 feet of existing 6” vitrified clay (VC) sewer with new 8” polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sewer using open trench methods. The project also includes rehabilitating 5,436 feet of existing 8” VC sewer with trenchless methods. The project will also install new curb ramps to meet ADA standards near the project site area of new PVC pipe installation. Other road improvements are included as well.
The construction will affect portions of the following streets and locations in La Jolla: Palomar Av, Camino De La Costa, Avenida Cresta, Winamar Av, Mesa Wy, Via Maria, La Jolla Hermosa Av, Avenida Chamnez, and Newkirk Dr.
Construction Schedule
The project is currently at 30% design stage. The construction is estimated to begin in May of 2012 and is estimated to complete in March of 2013.
Cost
The total project cost is $4.7 million. This amount includes the design, environmental studies, construction, inspection, and permits fees. The construction cost is estimated at $3 million.
