Background
Sewer Pipeline Rehabilitation Phase K-1 is part of a program established by the City of San Diego and the Environmental Protection Agency mandating the rehabilitation of old and deteriorated concrete sewer mains. The existing sewer mains in the Linda Vista and Serra Mesa communities were originally installed between 1952 and 1970 and are in deteriorating condition nearing the end of their service life.
Rehabilitation of these sewer mains will reduce maintenance requirements, improve service reliability, and upgrade the system to modern standards.
Project Overview
Sewer Rehabilitation Phase K-1 consists of rehabilitating approximately 36,465 linear feet (6.91 miles) of 8-inch sewer mains using trenchless technology.
The majority of the work will occur within the City's right-of-way. Areas behind homes or in non-paved areas would only be used to access manholes for rehabilitation and would not be excavated.
Construction Schedule
Sewer Pipeline Rehabilitation Phase K-1 is estimated to begin construction in the winter of 2011 and is estimated to complete within six months.
Cost
The total cost of this project is approximately $5 million.
