South Mission Valley Trunk Sewer

Project Background

The existing 30-inch VC (vitrified clay) trunk sewer pipe is from the original 1947 installation. Most of the existing pipe has reached its useful design life and is to be replaced with new upsized pipe to meet current design standards.

The EPA requires completion of this project by October 2011.

Project Overview

The new pipe replaces portions of the existing trunk sewer built in 1947 that is in deteriorated conditions, and installation of larger pipe to increase capacity. The project consists of installation of approximately 3,000 linear feet of existing 36-inch diameter trunk sewer along Interstate 8 between Hotel Circle Place and Taylor Street. Approximately 600 linear feet of 24-inch diameter trunk sewer will be replaced at I-8/I-15 interchange and all other work and appurtenances

Benefits

The project will upgrade the capacity of South Mission Valley Trunk Sewer to meet anticipated future peak flows, and bring the sewer system up to current design standards to comply with EPA requirements and mandates.

Schedule

Project construction began in August of 2009 and will take approximately 230 working days to complete.

Cost

The total project cost is $15,816,663. This amount includes the design, environmental studies, construction, inspection, and permits fees.
