USIU - Miramar Trunk Sewer

Project Overview

The project consists of replacing approximately 2.2 miles (11,700 linear feet) of trunk sewer main ranging in diameter from 18 to 21 inches, and of abandoning approximately 0.4 miles (2,240 linear feet) of existing 15-inch sewer mains. The work also includes replacement of 213 lineal feet of smaller tributary sewers. The only street affected by this project is Pomerado Road from Avenida Magnifica to the Interstate-15.

Elements of the USIU - Miramar Trunk Sewer project include: jack and bore tunneling under I-15 and Pomerado Road, installation of sewage bypass system(s) to maintain flow during construction, reconstruction of existing manholes, traffic control, installation of curb ramps, street resurfacing, and the replacement of landscaping and re-vegetation.

5/23/11 – Night construction work will take place tonight at the intersection of Avenida Magnifica and Pomerado Road from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Night work was selected for this portion of the project to minimize traffic impacts to the high traffic volume on Pomerado Road during the day.

Project Background

USIU- Miramar Trunk Sewer is part of a program established by the City of San Diego and the Sewer Main Replacement Program as mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. The pipeline, located in the Scripps Miramar Ranch Community Plan Area, was originally installed in 1969 and is at the end of its design life.
