Water Main Replacement Project 554
Water Group Job 901CI and 902CI (revised Dec. 18, 2009)
Project Location
North Clairemont area of San Diego
Project Description and Purpose
The City of San Diego replaced approximately 3 ½ miles of water mains in north Clairemont with new, durable plastic pipes. The original 8, 12 and 16-inch diameter cast iron mains were installed as early as 1950.
The new pipes will reduce maintenance needs, increase the size of existing pipes to better serve the area, improve service reliability and minimize future water main breaks caused by aging pipes. The estimated $7 million construction costs are included as part of the Water Department’s ongoing capital improvement projects.
Construction Information
All construction is complete except for repaving. Construction crews will return briefly in spring 2010 to repave the area.
