Project Description and Purpose
The City of San Diego replaced approximately one mile of water mains in the Encanto and Southeastern San Diego areas with new durable plastic pipes. The old 8, 12 and 16-inch diameter cast iron mains were originally installed as early as 1950.
The new pipes will reduce maintenance needs, increase the size of existing pipes to better serve the area, improve service reliability and minimize future water main breaks. The estimated $1.8 million construction costs are included as part of the Water Department’s ongoing capital improvement projects.
