The City of San Diego finds that pedicabs are a popular mode of non-motorized transportation in the City. In response to concerns due to the increasing prevalence of pedicabs, the City of San Diego has enacted new regulations governing pedicabs, owners, and operators. The main purpose of these regulations is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the general public and passengers using pedicabs. The intent of these regulations is to further facilitate the orderly flow of traffic and to relieve congestion and traffic hazards associated with pedicab use. The City's pedicab ordinance was amended on 9-11-2009 (effective 10-11-2009), by Ordinance No. 19898 and is printed in the San Diego Municipal Code Chapter 8, Article 3, Division 1. For the users' convenience a copy of the ordinance is posted below. Also posted below are the processes for obtaining pedicab operator's and vehicle permits.
