How to Purchase

A variety of specialized garden products are now available including compost, mulch and wood chips; a mix of wood chips and mulch; and bagged compost.

City of San Diego residents may self-load up to two cubic yards of compost or mulch for free with proof of residency. Mulch and compost loaded by Greenery staff and wood chips can be purchased at the Miramar Landfill fee booth located at the landfill's entrance. All Greenery products are priced by the cubic yard and include sales tax. One cubic yard is equal to the size of six 32-gallon trash cans.

Bagged Compost
Bagged compost is only available for purchase at the Miramar Recycling Center.

How to Pick Up Compost, Mulch and Wood Chips

Customers can pick up materials at the Miramar Greenery after showing their receipt. Those who paid for compost or wood chips will have their vehicle loaded by one of the Greenery equipment operators. Those who hand load mulch or compost need to provide their own tools such as a shovel, container and tarp. All vehicles must have their loads covered. It is advised to bring and wear a dust mask while loading and spreading the material.

All materials are available on a first come, first served basis. Supplies are limited.

Payment Information

• Only cash and checks are accepted. No debit or credit cards.
• Make checks payable to City Treasurer.
• A penalty of $25 will be imposed on all returned checks.
• Please request a receipt for your transaction.
• For efficient transactions, large volume/tonnage customers can apply for Deferred Payment Account Services
