Who is eligible to participate:
Private companies, public institutions, nonprofit organizations, and other
entities located in the San Diego region are all encouraged to become

Who supports the Program?
The Climate Wise-Energy Star® Alliance is a partnership founded on
a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy and fuel
efficiencies, and the use of renewable energy and alternative fuels. The
program is founded on the belief that working together, businesses, technical
assistance programs, and government can catalyze innovative solutions
that are good for the economy and good for the environment. So far, participating
businesses in the Climate Wise-Energy Star® program are reducing over
23,000 tons per year of carbon dioxide.
Which entities are involved?
The City of San Diego Environmental Services Department,
San Diego Regional Energy Office
and San Diego Gas and Electric are
co-sponsors of the program. This brings together the administrative support
for the business community along with the technical support often needed
to guarantee success. The participating companies that have signed on
to the program are designated as "Climate Wise-Energy Star® Partners,"
and will benefit from the free services offered through this program.
Each Partner pursues the goals of enhancing energy efficiency, preventing
pollution, and reducing greenhouse gases that ultimately reduce bottom
line costs.
The alliance supports the Partners in a number of ways: "Best in
class" industry actions are awarded and promoted; information and
assistance are provided on a range of emissions-reducing opportunities,
and "Peer Exchanges" are organized to advance many of the successful
business practices. The program assists Partners with developing their
corporate policy or statement, setting performance levels, and increasing
awareness of energy efficiency among employees. Free energy audits are
also available.
How are Climate Wise-Energy Star® Partners Acknowledged?
The program formally acknowledges those participating companies for greenhouse
gas emission reduction efforts. Every year one company is selected as
Climate Wise-Energy Star Partner of the Year and receives an award from
the City of San Diego's Mayor. Public recognition has also included media
coverage provided by the City, promotional activities with elected officials,
and applications to State and National awards programs.
