Heavy Rescue

If there's a specialized rescue in the City of San Diego the specially trained and equipped crew of Heavy Rescue 4 will likely be on the scene. The crew of Rescue 4 has been serving the community for more than 25 years.

Rescue 4 is responsible for providing help with a wide scope of rescue services including:

  • Vehicle Rescues
  • Industrial Rescues
  • Structural Collapse Rescues
  • Trench Rescues
  • Confined Space Rescues
  • Elevator Rescues
  • Water Rescues
  • Vertical Rescues

The Rescue 4 rig is a 1992 Pierce Lance II Apparatus powered by a 400 hp, 552 cubic inch, V6 Detroit Diesel motor.

This specially designed rig features:

  • Four 100' hydraulic reels that supply the Amkus vehicle rescue system
  • An onboard 25,000 Watt PTO driven generator
  • Scene lighting
  • A 12,000 pound Warn Winch

Some of the tools carried include: several types of saws, air bags capable of lifting more than 74 tons, shoring materials, many different types of hand tools as well as firefighting and emergency medical equipment.

Heavy Rescue 4 is located downtown at Station 4.
