Fire Suppression Organization

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Fire Suppression Organization staffs 46 fire stations throughout the City of San Diego to respond to emergency fire and medical calls.

The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Fire Suppression consists of:

46 fire stations protecting a geographic area of 331 square miles.
46 fire stations divided into 7 Battalions.

Each Battalion contains between 5 to 7 fire stations consisting of:

Single House Stations
A Single House Station typically contains one fire engine. All Single House Stations house four firefighters.

Double House Stations
A fire station containing at least a fire engine and a truck. Additionally, Double House Stations usually serve as the Battalion Headquarters. The Battalion Chief who oversees daily operations throughout the Battalion works from the Headquarters.

Speciality Stations
Fire stations which also perform special duties such as heavy rescue, hose repair and ladder repair.
