| Tuition-free CERT San Diego Classes
Learn vital Disaster Preparedness and Response skills this fall from San Diego Firefighters! CERT teams are trained in safe, basic emergency skills valuable in any major disaster, such as fires, earthquakes, floods, mud slides and terrorism events. Based on a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program, CERT San Diego teaches light search and rescue, basic fire suppression, emergency management and medical triage. The goal is to start evacuations and first aid as quickly as possible and serve other time-critical emergency functions to help save lives and property. The City's CERT San Diego program will reach and teach as many adult volunteers as possible. The class is offered free; class supplies are offered at cost to San Diego residents. Part of the curriculum includes developing an emergency preparedness kit, reviewing home safety and building community protection strategies. CERT San Diego trains hundreds of student volunteers each year and offers expertise and support to communities throughout San Diego. CERT volunteers stay involved through annual city-sponsored refresher courses and drills, advanced training, community activities and team building. If you live outside the City of San Diego, there are other CERT teams in your area. Visit County of San Diego CERT Contacts to find your local CERT team. |
