| Tuition-free CERT San Diego Academy
There are no CERT San Diego Academies currently scheduled for 2010. CERT San Diego trains hundreds of volunteers each year and offers expertise and support to communities throughout San Diego. We train academy students in safe, basic emergency skills valuable in any major disaster, such as fires, earthquakes, floods, mud slides and terrorism events. Based on a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) program, students attend six weekly 4-hour classes on the following subjects: Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Disaster Medical Operations, Search and Rescue, CERT Organization, Incident Command System, Disaster Psychology, and Terrorism. The final class is a disaster drill in which all students participate in a demonstration of their newly acquired skills. The interactive training process involves both classroom and practical activities. CERT volunteers stay involved through annual city-sponsored refresher courses and drills, advanced training, community activities, and team building. If you live outside the City of San Diego, visit County of San Diego CERT Contacts to find your local CERT team. |
