The Fire Engine is probably the most familiar piece of equipment in the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Fire Engines are on the road constantly responding to both fire and medical incidents.

The fire engine is a pumper which usually carries 500 gallons of water, hose, pump and 48 feet of ground ladders. The primary task of a fire engine crew is: search and rescue, locate, confine and extinguish fire and, when warranted, respond to 9-1-1 medical incidents.
