The Department manages and ensures the security and safety of the City's computing and network resources by creating, implementing, and enforcing IT security policies, procedures, and standards; performs random and planned system audits; educates City employees about cyber security (internal and external threats); and performs electronic discovery (eDiscovery) for California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests and in response to subpoenas or internal investigations.
Securing Our eCity - Public/Private Partnership
Model Cyber City Project - In January 2010, San Diego was selected as the pilot city to create regional public-private partnerships for cybersecurity that can be used as a national model. The Mayor, Department of IT, and Police Department have participated in and supported the efforts to get this project started and expanded across the San Diego region. Securing Our eCity (SOeC) involves over 200 members and includes representatives from local, state, and federal public agencies, as well as dozens of regional private sector companies.
