Lifeguard Vehicles
The San Diego Lifeguard Service has a fleet of 20 patrol vehicles. Vehicles
used by supervisors are sport utility vehicles while the rest are quarter
ton pick-ups. We have found it essential in our working environment to
get a few accessories such as positraction, a towing package, electric
door locks, and off road tires. We
use the MX-7000 light bar which is manufactured by Code 3. On top of the
vehicle we store the rescue paddleboard, a Ferno-Washington stretcher and
a floating immobilizing device known as a Miller Splint. Inside the vehicle
is a trauma pack that includes positive pressure oxygen equipment and other
equipment to take care of medical emergencies. There is a "Code X"
kit which enables lifeguards to systematically search for a submerged swimmer.
And of course there are rescue buoys. Some of the supervisor vehicles are
equiped with cliff rescue equipment.
