Online registration for 2010 will begin on Monday, March 29 at 8:00 a.m. If the session you want is already full during the online registration process, please email us at sdjuniorguards@sandiego.gov to get on the wait list. Please do not register for a session you are unable to attend. Wait list inquiries will only be accepted via email.

Program Requirements

Our Program is open to girls and boys ages 9 through 17 years.
Students must meet the following swimming requirements for a 100 yard swim:

Groups Ages Qualifying Time

"C" 9 - 11 2 min 30 sec

"B" 12 - 13 2 min 15 sec

"A" 14 - 17 1 min 45 sec

"Cadet" 15 - 17 1 min 20 sec

Tryouts

All new students must attend a tryout in order to participate in the program. If your child does not attend a tryout prior to their registered session, you will be refunded your money minus the processing fee and your child's space given to the next person on the wait list.

Prior to attending a Tryout, new students must register and submit payment during the online registration process. However, the swimming requirements (listed above) must be met in order to be accepted into the Program. New students can attend as many tryouts as needed to pass the swim test. A refund is given should your child fail the swim test, however, the refund processing fee (25% of tuition) will apply. We strongly recommend regular swim workouts before attending a tryout.

Returning students do not need to attend a Tryout. A qualification swim will be required on day one of each session.

Training Sessions

Session I - Wednesday, June 23 thru Tuesday, July 20.
Session II - Monday, July 26 thru Friday, August 20.
Each session offers an AM (8:30 am to 12:00 pm) and a PM (1:00 pm to 4:30 pm) class.
During the registration process, you will indicate your desired Session and class according to the following choices:

• Session I, AM
• Session I, PM • Session II, AM
• Session II, PM
The Program runs Monday through Friday.
Program headquarters is at the Santa Clara Recreation Center in Pacific Beach, 1008 Santa Clara Place, off Mission Boulevard. Most days are spent in and around the waters of Mission Bay and the oceanfront located at Santa Clara Place. Throughout the program we will visit other City beaches to become aware of the opportunities and hazards that exist along San Diego's coast.

Enrollment Fees

Tuition for one session (Session I or II) is $500.

Waiver Form

We must receive a waiver form for each child enrolled in the program. Enrollment is contingent upon receipt of your signed waiver form. No student will be allowed to participate in Junior Lifeguard activities without a complete waiver.

At the end of the registration process, you are required to print the waiver form. Please mail the completed waiver form to:

Refund Policy

Fees will apply to refund requests, however, our refund policy is currently being reviewed. This will be updated as soon as new information is available.

Online Registration

If the session you desire is full, please email us immediately at sdjuniorguards@sandiego.gov. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY WAIT LIST INQUIRIES VIA PHONE MESSAGES. Please include name(s) of child/children, date of birth, session desired, and a phone number where we can reach you. PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR A SESSION YOU DO NOT PLAN ON ATTENDING.

For efficiency and convenience, we have an online registration system. We do not accept mail-in registration forms. Enrollment is limited and sessions are expected to fill quickly this year. We recommend that you register as soon as possible during open registration to get your desired session. Should you have any difficulty with the online registration process, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. Payment will be due in full when you register and must be paid online. NOTE: Those applying for a scholarship will not be required to submit payment during registration. However, you must still register online in order to save a space for your child/children. We must receive your complete scholarship application by April 30, 2010 to guarantee your child's space in the program. A complete scholarship packet includes the 2010 scholarship application, your 2009 1040 form (ALL PAGES), all 2010 W-2 forms, and/or a profit & loss statement and Schedule C form (should be included with your 1040 forms).

Any vacancies due to refunds, etc, will be filled on a first come, first serve basis, and will require payment in full at the time of registration. If you wish to add your child to a waitlist for a particular session, please e-mail us at sdjuniorguards@sandiego.gov.
