Registration

Online registration will begin on the following dates.

• 2012 Junior Lifeguards - Monday, March 26 at 8:00 a.m.
• 2012 JGrommets Program - Monday, April 9 at 8:00 a.m.

Enrollment is limited and sessions are expected to fill quickly this year. We strongly recommend that you register as soon as possible during open registration to get your desired session.

Our registration site is www.sdjrguards.org (we do not accept mail-in registration forms). In order to register your child/children online, you must first create an account for your family. If you are a returning family, please use your account login and password from 2011. If you have new members of the family joining our program this year, please add them as family members to your existing registration account. Due to the high volume of people attempting to register the first day, we strongly suggest you create/update this account prior to registration day. This same account can be used for registration for future summers.

Please note: There will be a non-refundable ACTIVENET transaction fee of $10.50 plus 2.5% per transaction. (Not per child.) Payment will be due in full when you register and must be paid online.

PLEASE NOTE: Session vacancies will be filled from the wait list giving priority to those not registered in another session and in the order received. Therefore, if the session you wish to register for is full, please do not register your child/children for a session they are unable to attend. Instead, place them on the wait list for the desired session.

Scholarship Program

For more information, please read the scholarship section of our website. Scholarship applicants do not need to register online but do need to turn in a complete scholarship application packet to our Lifeguard Services office during the application period.

Program Requirements

• Our Program is open to girls and boys ages 9 through 17 years.
• New students to the program must meet the following swimming requirements for a 100 yard swim:

  Groups	Ages	Qualifying Time
  "C"	9 - 11	2 min 30 sec
  "B"	12 - 13	2 min 15 sec
  "A"	14 - 17	1 min 45 sec
  "Cadet"	15 - 17	1 min 20 sec

Tryouts (For new students only.)

All new students must attend a tryout in order to participate in the program. Prior to attending a tryout, new students must register and submit payment during the online registration process. However, the swimming requirements (listed above) must be met in order to be accepted into the Program. New students can attend as many tryouts as needed to pass the swim test. We strongly recommend regular swim workouts before attending a tryout. If you have any questions regarding tryouts and the swim test, please email us at sdjuniorguards@sandiego.gov.

If you plan to attend a tryout, please show up at any time between 9 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Swim tests will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

Class Sessions

• During the registration process, you will indicate your desired Session and class according to the following choices:

  Dates: Monday, June 18 thru Friday, July 13.
  Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  Session 1 PM

  Dates: Monday, June 18 thru Friday, July 13.
  Time: 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  Session 2 AM

  Dates: Monday, July 23 thru Friday, August 17.
  Time: 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  Session 2 PM

  Dates: Monday, July 23 thru Friday, August 17.
  Time: 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  **Please note: Students may not attend both AM and PM classes within the same session.

• The Program runs Monday through Friday.
• Program headquarters is at the Santa Clara Recreation Center in Pacific Beach, 1008 Santa Clara Place, off Mission Boulevard. Most days are spent in and around the waters of Mission Bay and the oceanfront located at Santa Clara Place. Throughout the program we will visit other City beaches to become aware of the opportunities and hazards that exist along San Diego's coast.

Enrollment Fees

• Tuition for one session (Session 1 or 2) is to be determined.

Waiver Form

We must receive a waiver form for each child enrolled in the program. Enrollment is contingent upon receipt of your signed waiver form. No student will be allowed to participate in Junior Lifeguard activities without a complete waiver.

At the end of the registration process, you are required to print the waiver form. Please mail the completed waiver form to:

For those that were unable to print out the required form during registration, a downloadable Waiver Form (PDF) is available (one per student).

Refund Policy

Percent of Paid Registration Fee Refunded	Timeline
100%	For written notice of cancellation received up to 30 calendar days prior to the first day of the session.
75%	For written notice of cancellation received from day 29 to day 10 prior to the first day of the session.
50%	For written cancellations received from day 9 to day 2 prior to the first day of the session.
0%	No refund from 2 days [48 hours] prior to the first day of the session.

• The San Diego Junior Lifeguard Program will refund 100% of the registration fee paid in the event that an applicant is not able to pass the required swim test. In such circumstances the percentages and timelines outlined above do not apply.
• The applicant must always provide a written notice of cancellation (via email to sdjuniorguards@sandiego.gov).
