New parks and open space, hotels, and residential neighborhoods are mixed with restaurants, retail, and places of learning to create a community resource for all of San Diego's residents and visitors to share. The adaptive reuse of eventually 52 buildings (of which 33 have been completely rehabilitated, and eight are currently in the process) in the NTC Historic District celebrates the heritage of the former Naval base, as well as the history of the region.
