Boat ChannelThe southern end of the Boat Channel opens to San Diego Bay. The main portion of NTC is on the west side of the Channel with Camp Nimitz on the east. The average depth of the Channel is 12 to 15 feet, and is 27 feet deep at its lowest point. It was created from marshlands and the soil dredged from San Diego Bay was used to reclaim land for Naval use in 1922. |

Shows the removal of the asphalt roadway in preparation for the Esplanade. Across the Boat Channel is the Regional Public Safety Training Institute, and future location of the Metro Waste Water Department (MWWD) Ocean Monitoring Lab. |
