The City of San Diego was granted a unique opportunity to create a new, picturesque waterfront community near downtown. Envisioning an urban village that mixes homes with places of work, education, recreation, and entertainment, the City developed an ambitious plan to turn the former Navy base into a viable community that complemented the surrounding area.
In harmony with the City NTC Reuse Plan's call for a pristine area surrounded by green landscaping and bordered by water and focused on NTC's history, a diverse selection of businesses now provide employment opportunities for San Diegans while visitors discover parks, retail shops, museums, arts and cultural activities, and a waterfront recreation area.
The City's vision for NTC has been to create a place celebrating San Diego's maritime history. This new community now anchors revitalization of the northern portion of San Diego Bay. It also supports education, training and research, and development programs attracting new industries to San Diego and strengthening the region's performance in international trade with Mexico and the Pacific Rim.
