The City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of senior services throughout the city. Whether you're a senior or you have friends or family that are seniors, our Senior Citizen Services offers important information that can positively affect the health, safety and financial security of seniors.

Our quarterly newsletter, The Scroll (PDF), lists senior activities and events and we also have many Senior Centers located throughout the city.

Register Online!

Visit SDRecConnect (link) to conveniently browse a variety of activities offered by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department and Recreation Councils. Itís as easy as One, Two, and Three. Sign up for an account, find a class or activity, and register!

If you are registering a child for an activity, please do not use the childís information when completing a New Account. Adding family members after successfully creating an account can be completed later.

Please note: An email which includes a confirmation message with a special first-time activation link will be sent after signing up a new primary account. It is possible the email may go to your junk or spam folder. You will not be able to use your new account until you've used this special link!

Parks Fit

The Parks Fit San Diego Challenge is to walk or run 30 miles between June 20th and August 20th. Track your mileage and receive a free "I got fit in my park" t-shirt if you complete the 30 miles by the August 20th deadline. Then compete in the finale at NTC/Liberty station park Saturday, August 22, 2015.



The BookNook program is a "take a book, leave a book" gathering place where you can share your favorite literature and stories.


Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are key to the success of the senior office downtown San Diego, the Senior Lounge in Balboa Park, as well as the trips, dances and special events. Please contact us at (619) 236-6905 if you would like to volunteer.

Legal Assistance

Free legal assistance about general legal issues concerning seniors, 60 years or older, is available from the Senior Citizen Service Center located in the City Administration Building lobby, located at 202 C Street, in downtown San Diego. An attorney is available to provide free legal assistance on such legal issues as will and renter disputes. For an appointment to see a volunteer attorney, please call (858) 565-1392.

This service is provided by a volunteer to the City of San Diego's Senior Services Program. The City of San Diego does not endorse, sponsor, or has any other involvement and/or relationship with this provider and further disavows any responsibility or other liability for his/her advice.

Trips, Dances and Special Events

  • You can make new friends, visit exciting places and get involved. Las Vegas, Laughlin, Palm Springs, Lawrence Welk Resort and Julian are a few of the annual trips provided as part of our Senior Citizen Services.
  • Annual Special Events include the Senior Photo Art Show, Senior Art Contest, Senior Talent Show and Senior Craft Sale.
  • Dances, with live entertainment and dance instruction, are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at the Balboa Park Club, at a minimal fee.

Relax, socialize and enjoy a cup of coffee in the comfortable Senior Lounge, located in the Casa Del Prado (room 105).
