Balboa Park Activity Center (BPAC)
The Balboa Park Activity Center (BPAC) is a multi-purpose gymnasium built to accommodate badminton, table tennis, volleyball and other events, including regional, state and national tournaments. The Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair and a variety of tournaments for people with disabilities are also held at the Balboa Park Activity Center. Basketball is available at the Municipal Gymnasium in Balboa Park.
Register online for Programs offered by the Recreation Council, using the Online Activity Registration System. Log on at SDRecConnect.com.
Set up your account and browse classes now. Spring 2015 classes will be viewable on January 24, 2015, and will become available for registration on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
Returning Customers (who have previously registered for classes online)
Click the My Account button. Enter your login (email address) and password.
If you’ve forgotten your password, click My Account, then click the small “Forgotten?” link. Enter the email address you used when you created the account, and the system will send you a temporary password via email. Log in with the temporary password and the system will prompt you for your “Current password” - which means the temporary password in this case - and a new password of your choice. Be sure to click Save!
First Time Online Customers
Click the Create Account*** button. Fill out the New Account Request form completely for the primary responsible person, usually a parent or head of household, including all required fields, (Birth date, Gender, Email Address, etc.) and click Submit (or Submit & Add Family Member to add your other family members). In a short time, check your email for a confirmation message with a special first-time activation link. You will not be able to use your new account until you've used this special link! Note that it's possible this email will go to your “spam” folder, so check carefully. To avoid duplication, be sure to let others in your household know you've set up the account.
***Important!: If you are registering a child for an activity, please use your own information, not your child's, when first completing the New Account Request form. Once you have filled it out for yourself, click “Submit,” or “Submit & Add Family Member” to add others such as your spouse and children. You can also easily add children later after you've created and confirmed the account. Be sure to check your email for a confirmation message with a special first-time activation link. Restorative Yoga Class and Wellness Program: FREE!
Every Monday and Tuesday 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., each class is limited to 8 students. Sign up at Balboa Park Activity Center front counter. Ages 18 years and older, beginner friendly. Restorative poses help relieve the effects of chronic stress. Each restorative sequence is designed to move the spine in all directions. Restorative Yoga alternately stimulates and soothes the organs. The Wellness Program will provide weekly nutritional Quick Tips, Recipes and Active Tips. Once a month a Certified Nutritionist will visit the class to provide Healthy Tips and Handouts. Please bring a towel and water!
Youth Volleyball Clinic
Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., for ages 11 to 16 years. This FREE clinic will focus on the fundamentals of passing, serving, hitting and footwork. Knee pads are required.
Table Tennis Lessons by Borko
$250 singles (for 3 weeks, 6 classes), Mondays and Fridays, ages 5 years and older. Contact the instructor to schedule the lessons. Borko (619) 962-1956.
History of the Center
The 38,000 square-foot activity center represents the first new large construction in Balboa Park since the 1960's. The activity center joins a family of Balboa Park structures built for world expositions in 1915 and 1935. Beautiful landscaping, public art and spacious outdoor plazas at the north and south end of the building provide excellent locations for picnics, public gatherings and special events.
Directions and Bus Route
The Activity Center is on the right at the corner of Park Boulevard and Inspiration Point Way.
From Interstate 8, take Highway 163 South. From 163 South, take the Park Boulevard exit and make a left onto Park Boulevard.
From Interstate 5 South, take the 10th Avenue exit to "A" Street. Turn left onto "A" Street, then turn left onto 12th Avenue. 12th Avenue becomes Park Boulevard.
From Interstate 5 North, take the "B" Street exit. Turn left onto "B" Street, then turn right onto 12th Avenue. 12th Avenue becomes Park Boulevard.
From Highway 94 West, take the 25th Street exit. Turn right onto 25th Street. Turn left onto "B" Street, then turn right onto 12th Avenue. 12th Avenue becomes Park Boulevard.
Parking for the Activity Center is located in the large old Naval Hospital Parking Lot which may be accessed from Inspiration Point Way off of Park Blvd. Parking Is Free.
The center is accessible by bus via SDMTS route 7.
