Montgomery-Waller Recreation Center

What's Coming

Halloween Carnival

Wednesday, October 28 From 5:00 through 8:00 p.m.
Age 3 and up
There will be a costumes contest, fun, prizes and games.
Volunteers are needed to help with the game booths.
This special event will be held at Montgomery-Waller Recreation Center.


Food vendors, bouncers, arts n crafts, entertainment, face painting, games, information booths and much more. Please no sleds, they will be provided at no cost. Special Visit from Santa Claus at 10:30 a.m.
Some vendors will sell items. If interested in booths contact the Montgomery Waller Recreation Center at 619-424-0466 and ask for C.J. Saldana or Erika Meza. Thank you to our sponsors at SDPD Southern Division, Able Base Helicopter, and Otay Mesa Recreation Council.

Starting Novermber 2,2015, Toys for Tots is a program that provides toys for low income families with children 12 years of age and younger. Families applying must qualify under country low-income guidelines to be eligible.

Youth Flag Football

This is a developmental fun league. Athletes will learn punting, passing, offensive, defensive drills and game strategy. League Championship games are scheduled on December 5, 2015, winner advance to Citywide finals. A liability waiver, photo and birth certificate are required at the time of registration.
Season starts September 14, 2015
For boys and girls ages 8 to 16 years
Cost is $20 for the season, with no uniform fees.

Hip Hop Dance

This introductory level dance class for children ages 9 years and older provides a structured method of learning various Hip Hop dance movements in a fun-filled and vibrant class environment. Class is Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Cost is $20 for three months through November 19, 2015.

The BookNook program is a "take a book, leave a book" gathering place at your favorite recreation center. Share your favorite literature and stories with others.


History of the Center

On August 28, 1883 John Montgomery became the first person to achieve a controlled flight when he launched his glider aircraft from a hillside in Otay Mesa. In 1950, a silver, 90 foot wing from a World War II Consolidated B-24 Liberator bomber was dedicated to this site, and in 1964 the family of Luckie Waller donated a parcel of land next to the site for a park named after her son.

From Interstate 5 South take the Coronado Avenue exit and turn left. The center is at 3020 Coronado Avenue.

From Interstate 805 South take the Palm Avenue exit and turn right. Travel west until you come to Beyer Blvd. Turn left on Beyer and then turn left again on Coronado Avenue. The center is at 3020 Coronado Avenue.

The center is accessible by bus via SDMTS routes 929 & 932.
