Basketball

Basketball Divisions: Pee Wee, 10u, 12u, 14u, 16u

Fundamental Basketball Class

This introductory class will teach the fundamentals of basketball, encourages good sportsmanship, while everyone has fun. The class will give participants a good jump toward advancement in organized team basketball.
Starts: Tuesday September 1, 2015 to Ends: Thursday October 22, 2015
Class Size (At least 5 but less than 13)
Age: (At least 5 but less than 8)
Cost: Free (Per 8 week session)
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

3rd Annual Turkey Basketball Shoot

Turkey Basketball Free Throw Shooting contest. Participants will compete against one another in 3 rounds of a free throw basketball shooting. Winners will go home with prizes including a turkey dinner and other delectables. Date: Friday November 20, 2015
Time: 5:00 p.m. through 9:00 p.m.
Cost: Free
Ages: 5 years 14 years

Breakfast with Santa

Bring the family to enjoy a continental breakfast, raffle games, arts & crafts, contests, and meet Santa Claus.
Date: Saturday December 19, 2015
Time: 10:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.

The BookNook program is a "take a book, leave a book" gathering place at your favorite recreation center. Share your favorite literature and stories with others.

History of the Center

Built for the 1935 Exposition as the "Palace of Electricity and Varied Industries" the architecture reflects a close relationship between ancient Maya and 20th Century ornamentation and its progression. During WW II the gym was used by the Navy. It was renovated in 1947.


Directions and Bus Route

From Interstate 8, take the 163 south through Balboa Park. Take the Interstate 5 South exit, then exit on Park Boulevard. Stay on Park Boulevard until you come to President's Way, then turn left on President's Way.  You will now be in the park. Go to the first stop sign and turn left. The gym is on your left, just beyond the Hall of Champions.

The Municipal Gymnasium is accessible by bus via SDMTS route 7.
