Summer Movies in the Park

All are welcome to enjoy a free wonderful movie in the park under the stars. Please bring your own blankets, pillows and chairs

Sports Fitness Class

This coed youth fitness class will teach various fundamental techniques, drills, and strategies, utilized in various sports (Baseball, Football, Soccer, and Track and Field).
Season 2 Starts: Monday June 22, 2015 to Ends: Wednesday August 26, 2015
Class Size (At least 5 but less than 13)
Cost: $25.00 (Per 8 week session)

Age: (At least 8 but less than 13)
Time: 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Fundamental Basketball Class

This introductory class will teach the fundamentals of basketball, encourages good sportsmanship, while everyone has fun. The class will give participants a good jump toward advancement in organized team basketball.
Starts: Tuesday June 16, 2015 to Ends: Tuesday August 18, 2015
Class Size (At least 5 but less than 13)
Age: (At least 5 but less than 8)

Cost: Free (Per 8 week session)
Time: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Progressive Basketball Class

This progressive class will teach competitive basketball techniques, encourages good sportsmanship, while everyone enjoys the fun of competition. The class will give participants a competitive jump towards organized team basketball.

Starts: Tuesday June 16, 2015 to Ends: Tuesday August 18, 2015

Parks Fit

The Parks Fit San Diego Challenge is to walk or run 30 miles between June 20th and August 20th. Track your mileage and receive a free "I got fit in my park" t-shirt if you complete the 30 miles by the August 20th deadline. Then compete in the finale at NTC/Liberty station park Saturday, August 22, 2015.

The BookNook program is a "take a book, leave a book" gathering place where you can share your favorite literature and stories.

History of the Center

Built for the 1935 Exposition as the "Palace of Electricity and Varied Industries" the architecture reflects a close relationship between ancient Maya and 20th Century ornamentation and its progression. During WW II the gym was used by the Navy. It was renovated in 1947.


Directions and Bus Route

Map this location

From Interstate 8, take the 163 south through Balboa Park. Take the Interstate 5 South exit, then exit on Park Boulevard. Stay on Park Boulevard until you come to President's Way, then turn left on President's Way.  You will now be in the park. Go to the first stop sign and turn left. The gym is on your left, just beyond the Hall of Champions.

The Municipal Gymnasium is accessible by bus via SDMTS route 7.
