Youth Flag Football

This Flag Football league is for all skill levels. Teams will play other Recreation Centers in the area and have a chance to qualify for the City-Wide tournament. Registration fee includes league games, banquet and trophy.
Registration: August 22 to October 15, 2015

Toys for Tots

Registration September 28 through November 7, 2015
For ages 0 to 12, provides 1 toy for each child.
Low income families must provide original documents.
Please contact staff for times and dates.

Teen Basketball

Wednesday and Thursday
6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Ages: 13 to 19
Cost: Free
These are ongoing pickup games that are played every Wednesday and Thursday.

Boxing Camp

Tuesday and Thursday
5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Ages: 10 to 18
Cost: Free
Learn the fundamentals of boxing in a fun interactive training session. Train hard, break a sweat and live well!


Tuesday and Thursday
4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Ages: 10 to 17
Cost: Free
This cheerleading program teaches kids the fundamentals of cheerleading and focuses on learning basics. Learn routines and cheer our teams during sports games.

Wii Dance Off

12:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Ages: 8 to 18
Cost: Free
Come have a dance off with your friends using the Nintendo Wii console for interactive play. Compete against others and find out who has the best moves. Other systems also available.

After-school Program

Monday through Friday
3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Ages: 6 to 17
Cost: Free
Tutoring, cooking class contests and game tournaments. Monthly special events!

Power Play Cooking Class

3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Ages: 7 to 14
Cost: Free
Learn to prepare easy healthy snacks using the 5 a day plan!

Arts & Crafts

3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Ages: 7 to 14
Cost: Free

Strength and Conditioning

Monday and Friday
5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Ages: 8 to 17
Cost: Free
Increase stamina, condition and general well being in a fun interactive training session. Train hard, break a sweat and live healthy!

Video Game Night

Wednesday and Friday
6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Ages: 12 to 18
Cost: Free
Come play the Xbox One with the newest titles and Kinect Gameplay. Other systems also available. Have a 'Next-Generation' game experience.

The BookNook program is a "take a book, leave a book" gathering place at your favorite recreation center. Share your favorite literature and stories with others.


History of the Center

The area now known as Willie Henderson Sports Complex was once called the Southeast Athletic Field. Willie Henderson lived in the area and was responsible for building ball fields for youth. In 1986 the site was named after him for his commitment to youth sports.

From Interstate 805 take the 43rd Street exit. Turn right, proceed to Boston Avenue and turn right. Proceed to 45th Street and turn left. 45th Street becomes a one way street where Willie Henderson Sports Complex is located (on the right).

The Sports Complex is accessible by bus via SDMTS routes 11, 955.
