The State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is responsible for the issuance of A.B.C. Permits. They require Property Owner Approval. Applicants must request a letter from the Park and Recreation Department Permit Center and provide it to the A.B.C. The Group, Private or Public Event, Location, Date, and Time of service must be provided to Developed Regional Parks Permit Center.

The Permit Center is located in the Balboa Park Administration Building at 2125 Park Boulevard. The permit center is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Recorded information is available at (619) 235-1169 or email My Park.

The District Manager will then acknowledge the request as follows:

"Developed Regional Parks Administration is aware that the aforementioned group intends to serve alcoholic beverages at (date here) in (location here) Park. The Caterer or Permittee must have Liquor Liability coverage included in their Certificate of Insurance, which names the City of San Diego as an Additional Insured, on file with the City. We acknowledge their request. All of the requirements of the A.B.C. Board must be met."

No red based punch or red wine may be served in DRP's public buildings.
Alcoholic beverages are permitted from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Balboa Park Central (Park Boulevard and Presidents Way north to Park Boulevard and Zoo Place, Park Boulevard west to Museum of Man/Cabrillo Bridge), Presidio Park and Mission Hills/Pioneer Park.
In accordance with San Diego Municipal Code (SDMC), alcoholic beverages are not permitted in Mission Bay Park, shoreline parks, or on city beaches.
Alcohol is PROHIBITED on the west side of Balboa Park (west of Cabrillo Bridge), east side of Park Boulevard (includes the area surrounding the Developed Regional Parks Administrative building, Morley Field, 28th Street Parks, Golden Hill and Grape Street Parks (SDMC 56.54).
