If you want to make a difference in a park or at a recreation facility, then there is a place for you in the Park and Recreation Department. Each year hundreds of volunteers of all ages and abilities come to City parks, recreation facilities and offices to help with a number of enriching programs and special events.

Many volunteers come to help individually, as part of a group, from a company, an office, school or a club. Many are students at the high school and college level. Students who need credit for completing community service volunteer work, should know that our staff will gladly verify your volunteer hours. And who knows? Maybe after you have completed your assignment, you will continue to volunteer!

The minimum age to volunteer is 13. Participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent, adult guardian, teacher, or adult group leader.

All volunteers (including minors 13 to 17 years of age) working with minors and people with disabilities are required by state law to be fingerprinted and cleared by the Department of Justice.

Volunteers who are assisting with one day special events/projects maybe exempt from this requirement.

"Volunteers don't have to act as if they care...they care enough to act."
