Parking Meters Frequently Asked Questions
What are the hours of parking meters enforcement?
Parking meters are enforced normally Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., unless otherwise posted.
What should I do if the meter I park at is broken?
The best thing to do is to move to another meter and report the broken meter to the Parking Meter Shop at (800) 808-5998. You'll be asked to leave a message when calling this telephone number. Be sure to note the number on the parking meter before you call. The parking meter number can be found on a metal plate, toward the bottom of the meter, on the street side of the meter.
I am moving to a new apartment/condo/business and need to reserve a spot for the moving van. Can I get a permit from the City to "hood" one or more parking meters to reserve a parking space on the street?
No. Moving vans are required to pay meter fees.
Who do I contact to "hood" one or more parking meters for a special event?
Contact the City of San Diego Office of Special Events.
What is a Parking Meter Debit Card?
A pre-paid parking meter debit card, which resembles a phone card, is encoded with a computer chip that enables the public to purchase a pre-determined amount of parking for use at the meters.
What do I do if my pre-paid parking meter card doesn't work?
Visit the Parking Administration office at 1010 Second Ave, Sixth Floor West Tower, San Diego, 92101 to be issued a new card.
Where can I get information about the Parking Meter District Program?
Visit the Parking Meter District Program Web page.
