What is the City's Responsibility in the Environmental Review Process?

The City's Land Development Code. specifically assigns the responsibility for implementation of CEQA to the Development Services Department (DSD). The Development Services Department is charged with maintaining independence and objectivity in its review and analysis of the environmental consequences of the projects under its purview. The Director of DSD must work with both public and private project applicants to ensure that all feasible environmental mitigation measures or project alternatives are incorporated to minimize or preclude adverse impacts to the environment resulting from the project. Any decision maker in the City on a project subject to Processes 2-5 or on a land use plan or other new regulations must consider the results of the CEQA document when making a decision.
