Abel Silvas
Abel Silvas is a performing artist/teacher and an eighth generation San Diegan. He tours a one-man show that is based on California history and frequently performs in historical dramas, such as the ones at the Cabrillo National Monument.
Mr. Silvas sits on the Tribal Council of the Juaneņo Band of Mission Indians and serves as their Native American Monitor under the NAGPRA law.
He is a faculty member in the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Cal State University in San Marcos and teaches a program called Learning Through the Arts for school children.
Mr. Silvas is a Fullbright-Hays Scholar who has traveled to India, Mexico, and was recently sent to Santiago, Chile by the U.S. Department of State for their U.S. Speaker/Specialist program promoting the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
He is currently a member of the San Diego Presidio Park Council, the Mayor's American Indian Advisory Committee, and the Old Town San Diego State Historic State Park- Interpretive Advisory Committee. Mr. Silvas is also the artistic director for the Annual Grunion Festivals.
His artistic training took place at the Marcel Marceau School of Mime at the University of Michigan.
