Census 2000 City of San Diego Demographic Profile:

The 2000 Census was completed in April, 2000. Data from Summary File 1 (SF-1) represents data collected from all households where Summary File 3 (SF-3) data exhibits a sample of the population. Some data presented here may not match 2000 Census information published by the United States Census Bureau for the following reasons: sample census data have been controlled to match 100 percent count (SF1) data; and some minor adjustments were made, such as correcting the location of housing units that were erroneously allocated by the Census Bureau to roads and open space) to more accurately reflect the region’s true population and housing distribution.

The City of San Diego

The City of San Diego is now the second most populous city in California and its residents make up nearly half (43 percent) of the County's population. It is the economic hub of the region, with well over half of the region's jobs and nearly three-quarters of the region's large employers (over 500 employees) located there. Thirteen of the region's 20 major colleges and universities are in the City of San Diego, as are 6 of the region's 12 major retail centers.

The city's visitor attractions are world-class and include Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, Sea World, Cabrillo National Monument, and Old Town State Historic Park, which is visited by more than six million people each year.
